I am a manager, facilitator and speaker presently employed as an educator. I’ve always been passionate about the opportunities that technology offers and have many experiences giving me a broad range of knowledge.

I work with teachers and students to implement the use of ICT in the context of effective teaching and learning. Whilst at university I originally was training to be a Psychologist, however found that my understanding of logic led me to create computerized systems for Psychological experiments.

This was very successful and my peers soon came to me for advice. This led me to understand that my interest in people was about the logic of the things we do and the processes we go through fit together. Having a reputation for helping undergraduates with computer related issues I was offered a position at the university I studied at when I graduated.

I soon became involved with offering training materials, delivering them and speaking. Since then I have worked with companies of all sizes, at various levels including management. I found that my ability to communicate issues was a great asset when dealing with problem resolution. Communication is also the key in education. I’ve taught children and adults about desktop design, multimedia creation and computing science.

When I first started teaching at high school I was disappointed with what the New Zealand education system offered in ICT or computing (as just another technology), I lobbied for change. When the new Achievement Standards in Digital Technologies first became available I wrote materials for them immediately and have been working on new more authentic, meaningful and engaging educational experience for students. Recent projects include creating a course using Google’s App Inventor to create applications for Android devices.

I am an actively involved with the IT industry being a committee member of the Canterbury branch of the New Zealand Computer society, and I was awarded the Information Technology Certified Professional status in 2010.
