I love to help sell others but here is how I sell myself… There is an old adage that the pen is mightier than the sword. Business writing expert Ross Middleton is a great believer in this. In a world that is overflowing with information, communicating clearly has never been so important, he says.

Prior to SunMedia Ken was a news reporter/photographer for just over two years for the Dannevirke News. There he wrote a widely read weekly opinion column for his entire tenure as well as writing all types of news and community stories, farming and lifestyle articles, reporting on court and council meetings and taking photographs.

Before working for the Dannevirke News Ken had not written professionally at all. He worked in the music industry for 21 years, with seven of those spent in the UK working in production co-ordination, sales, purchasing and store management.

While recovering from an accident in the 1990s Ken studied to become a legal executive and took up employment with the Industrial Relations Service (now the Employment Relations Service). There he dealt with employment disputes before being enticed away to become the legal manager for a debt collection company. A couple of years later he formed his own para legal company providing debt collection services, employment mediations, writing terms of trade and other legal agreements.

After purchasing a lifestyle property in the Tararua District Ken began submitting articles to the Dannevirke News who took everything he submitted on a freelance basis until after about four months a staff vacancy arose and he was offered a permanent position.

Following a company restructuring in Dannevirke Ken moved to Tauranga to take up employment with SunMedia and now lives in a semi-rural area on the outskirts of Tauranga.
